"We really enjoyed our stay at El Retiro! The staff were so helpful organising shuttles to and from Lanquin and tours. The tour to Semuc Champey was a real highlight! The private room was spacious and clean. Bathroom was basic but consistent hot water in the shower. The communal area is nice along the river and has a nice vibe (although music can be a bit loud at times) but a good spot to hang out (also has free WiFi here). Decent food menu for a hostel and good value for money. We were also able to do laundry here too. Great spot to enjoy Lanquin and the surrounding areas - would recommend!"

"The property was in walking distance from the pools so you would need transport if you wanted to head into Lanquin. Having said that we didn't feel we needed to. Our little bungalow had its own bathroom and was comfortable. The onsite restaurant had great food at a reasonable cost. The pools and garden area were beautiful and very well maintained... They were cleaning all the time. Contrary to the advert, the property does have wifi during "Electricity" hours and they do accept payment cards. Also, although the trip from lanquin is on the back of a truck the road is better than stated, there was reliable transport back to Lanquin for early morning onward travel. We really liked being close to the pools and waterfall and would recommend a stay here."

"Beautiful buildings in a lovely location, by the river. Everything was very clean, the staff were amazing, food was good. They offered trips to Semuc Champey, or transport only, with no pressure to buy. It was only a few minutes walk to the small village of Lanquin, where there were a few shops etc."

"It was cold at night but I was given a blanket when I asked. It would be good to have power sockets next to all beds in the dormitory, not just the two by the door."

"It’s a fantastic remote location! Absolutely beautiful to experience and understand the local community’s lifestyle. It’s a short distance to Semuc Champey. The hostel is very clean, and the staff and owners are incredibly friendly. The food was delicious! Nothing but praise for this place! What an amazing adventure!"
